Macmat R is a Geocomposite Turf Reinforced mat (TRF) consisting of Maccaferri double twist hexagonal steel mesh (or geogrid) integrated with three-dimensional polypropylene monofilaments that are heat bonded at the contact points to provide a dimensionally stable matrix during the manufacturing process. The polypropylene monofilaments are UV stabilized and the steel mesh is galvanized for durability or galvanized with PVC coating for aggressive environments.
MacMat R was initially developed to act as a high performance erosion control system on upland slopes, shorelines, stream banks, channel lining and wetland boundaries where the design discharge exerts velocities and shear stresses exceeding the limits of mature natural vegetation. It is also extensively used in other applications like soil nailing on railway and high embankments.slopes, shorelines, stream banks, channel lining and wetland boundaries where the design discharge exerts velocities and shear stresses exceeding the limits of mature natural vegetation. It is also extensively used in other applications like soil nailing on railway and high embankments.
The thickness, strength, and void space of MacMat R permit soil filling, retention, and development of vegetation within the matrix. The composite nature of MacMat R adds to the erosion control and sediment trapping function of the geosynthetic matrix. The strength of the steel wire mesh is particularly useful in applications where a superficial reinforcement is required.
