Maccaferri has a wealth of experience in providing end to end lining solutions to its customers. We provide a whole range of products and services which including design, supply & installation.

Striving to get a pollution free environment through scientific management of solid, liquids and gases has been one of the major objectives of Maccaferri. Maccaferri lining solutions are used in but not limited to the following applications:

- Liners for Solid Waste Landfills
- Solid Waste Landfill Caps
- Liners of potable water
- Liners for liquid & liquid radioactive wastes
- Canal Lining
- Liners for secondary containment of   underground storage tanks
- iners for solar ponds
- Sewage lagoons
- Liners for brine solutions
- Liners for waste conveyance
- Seepage control in earthen dams
- Liners for emergency spillways
- Waterproofing in coffer dams for seepage   control
- To control expansive soils & frost susceptible       soils
- To collect surface run off water & rain water
- To line pipes and chambers
- To line acid tanks floor
- Decorative ponds and lakes

These lining systems are very critical for some of the applications like landfills (municipal, industrial and hazardous chemical waste landfills) where an improper lining system may permit the leachate into the ground and may contaminate groundwater. Many old landfills used a simple clay liner for containing leachate (clay is one of the most non-permeable soils). Newer landfills are required to meet stringent norms to prevent environmental contamination. These landfills have sophisticated geosynthetic liner systems and commonly consist of two parts:

1. Base Lining System: The base lining system prevents the pollution of groundwater and soil by the leachate. It consists of the following (from bottom to top):
- An impervious layer (secondary geomembrane) over a compacted clay liner which prevents the entry of leachate into the ground.

- A leachate collection system (Geocomposites) for collection and transmission of leachate for proper disposal.

- In a double liner system a leak detection layer is provided (Geosynthetic Clay liner) along with the primary geomembrane with geotextile protection.

- A layer of gravel with perforated drain pipe covered by a layer of geotextile.

2. Capping System: The landfill capping system performs the following functions:
- Prevent moisture entering waste
- Erosion Control
- Control litter
- Reduce odors
- Limit access to rodents and birds
- Reduce fire risk
- Improve aesthetics

The capping system consists of a layer of geotextile followed a layer of GCL and geomembrane. A layer of Geocomposite is provided to drain off the surface water. A layer of geosynthetic reinforcement (geogrid) may be provided for providing stability. A geosynthetic erosion control mat (eg. Macmat) is provided at the top.

Maccaferri uses the following high performance geosynthetic products in various lining applications:

- MacLine (Geomembranes)
- MacGCL (Geosynthetic Clay Liners)
- MacNet (Geonets)
- MacDrain (Drainage Composites)
- MacTex (Geotextiles)
- MacGrid (Geogrids)
- Macmat (Erosion Control mat)

Most of these products are Polyethylene, polyester or polypropylene based. Polyethylene has proved to be the most popular Geomembrane lining material. This popularity is due to polyethylene's high UV resistance (provided by Carbon black) and chemical resistance in addition to its flexibility. Through developments in resin technology, today's polyethylene geomembranes exhibit outstanding resistance to stress cracking and thermal aging.
